Republican River Water Conservation District Welcomes Douglas Larson as General Manager

Wray, Colorado — The Republican River Water Conservation District (RRWCD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Douglas Larson as the new General Manager.

A Colorado State University alumnus, Larson brings more than forty years of experience in the agriculture industry and a lifelong commitment to agricultural production and water management. Although he calls northeastern Colorado home, his work in agricultural irrigation has taken him across five continents, providing him with a broad perspective on the complexities of both surface water and groundwater management.

As a fourth-generation farmer, rancher, and agricultural educator, Larson has built a distinguished career focused on advancing agriculture through innovation and stewardship. His professional experience spans agricultural irrigation installation and sales, to executive leadership, and business ownership, with a strong emphasis on precision irrigation systems and technologies that promote the efficient and sustainable use of water resources.

The RRWCD Board of Directors selected Larson based on his extensive agricultural background, leadership experience, and commitment to protecting the region’s water resources while supporting the long-term success of agriculture throughout the Republican River Basin.

“Doug’s combination of practical agricultural experience, technical knowledge, and leadership makes him exceptionally well-suited to guide the District into the future,” said the RRWCD Board of Directors Executive Committee. “We are excited to welcome him to the organization and look forward to working together to continue serving the producers, landowners, and communities within the District.”

Larson expressed his enthusiasm for joining the District and its mission.

“I am honored to join the Republican River Water Conservation District and look forward to working alongside the dedicated staff and Board of Directors. Together, we will continue ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal mandates while advancing responsible water management practices that protect our valuable resources. My goal is to help ensure future generations of agricultural producers and the communities that depend on them continue to thrive.”

Larson has officially assumed the role of General Manager and looks forward to building relationships with producers, stakeholders, partner organizations, and community members throughout the District, as RRWCD continues its mission of protecting the region’s precious water resources.

The Republican River Water Conservation District plays a vital role in protecting and managing groundwater resources across northeastern Colorado while working collaboratively with producers, groundwater management districts, state agencies, and local communities to achieve compliance with the Republican River Compact and promote the long-term sustainability of agriculture throughout the Basin.  In accordance with the Compact's mandate to retire 25,000 irrigated acres within the region prior to December 31, 2029, the District currently has 19,188 confirmed acres, so those interested in participating are encouraged to contact the RRWCD office at their earliest convenience at 970-332-3552.
