 Purpose of the District

The Republican River Water Conservation District was authorized by the General Assembly of the State of Colorado under Senate Bill 04-235 for the purpose of cooperating with and assisting the State to carry out its duty to comply with the limitations and duties imposed upon the State by the Republican River Compact.

 Water Activity Enterprise

On October 12, 2004, the Board of Directors created the Republican River Water Conservation District Water Activity Enterprise. This water activity enterprise was created to provide a service to the water users throughout the District by minimizing the potential of well curtailment due to noncompliance of the Republican River Compact between Colorado/Kansas/Nebraska.

As allowed by statute, the Enterprise collects water use fees annually to fund normal operating activities and to purchase and lease water rights that help the State of Colorado in its efforts to get into compact compliance. The Board of Directors of the Republican River Water Conservation District is the governing body for the enterprise. The enterprise is excluded from the provisions of, and cannot levy a tax which is subject to, Section 20 of Article X of the State constitution (Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights).

Posting Location – The official locations for posting District information is the bulletin board at the Yuma County Courthouse in Wray, and here on the Official Posting Place.

RRWCD Meeting Dates

The dates for the regular quarterly board meetings have been set by statute to be the second Thursday of January, April, July and October.  The dates for the next 12 months are: 

 April 12, 2012 - Yuma
 
July 12, 2012 - Holyoke

October 11, 2012 - Wray

January 10, 2013 - Burlington

Regular Board Meetings
 

By Colorado statute RRWCD is required to hold quarterly meetings on the second Thursday in the months of January, April, July and October. The January meeting is held at a site somewhere in Burlington, April in Yuma, July in Holyoke or Haxtun, and October in Wray. Other special meetings may be held as needed and at the location designated for that particular meeting.

Meeting notices are posted on the bulletin board at the Yuma County courthouse and at the Official Posting Place on the District’s website, “republicanriver.com”, at least 24 hours prior to the meeting. Notice is also placed in newspapers throughout the basin the week prior to the meeting.
